MODEL TEST INTERPRETATION
The biggest wind tunnel in the world can be found at NASA Ames Research Center in California. The test section is 24.4m high by 36.6m wide. A full-scale model of a Boeing 737 airplane can be mounted in this test section. In the same way, cars can also be tested full scaled in laboratories. Different from these engineering areas, in most of tests in the offshore industry it is not possible to use models with 1:1 scale, due to the enormous dimensions of the structures. Since the pioneers, the solution used for designers is, in addition to calculations, to perform experiments in reduced scale, analyze the results and from these estimate what is expected in real scale.
