The project was requested by COTECMAR which is a Colombian corporation focused on the development of the naval and maritime industry. Cotecmar is in charge of the preliminaries studies of a new coastal patrol vessel to the Colombian Nave. The main challenge is to develop the lines and shape of a 40 meters vessel that is able to present a good performance on the Caribbean Sea, which forms the north coast of Colombia.
Oceânica will participate on the project developing three different analyses: powering, seakeeping and maneuvering. Searching for a very high precision in the results, Oceânica will count on MARIN, Dutch institute that is worldwide recognized by its researches, resources and experimental studies for maritime systems and the creator of the softwares which will be used for the calculations, such as: DESP, Shipmo and Sursim.
The project might last around 2 to 3 months and it will also count with an extra support by the Oceânica’s directors who will be given a quick course in Colombia about the theoretical basis, analysis and interpretation of the project’s results.
